Why Solar?

There are several fantastic reasons to choose solar.

Firstly, a warming planet and rising CO2 emissions means there’s an increasing need to introduce cleaner, greener sources of energy. Solar energy is a large part of this solution. Even a very small 1kW solar electricity system prevents the release of an incredible 1.5 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere every year. In fact, if it could be properly harnessed, enough sunlight falls on the earth in just one hour to meet world energy demands for a whole year!

Secondly, generating your own source of electricity will save you serious money over time. Electricity prices have never been higher and, even with the demise of the carbon tax, they aren’t going to fall.

Thirdly, it also adds to the value of your home so when the time comes to sell there’s another ‘point of difference’ in your favour.

And lastly, it’s now more affordable than ever. Solar Mad is committed to providing solar technology at affordable prices. A 15% deposit is all you’ll need to secure one of our great systems and you won’t have to pay the balance until the day of installation!

What you should consider when thinking about solar

To yield high results from a Solar PV system your roof will need to be facing towards the sun when the sun is strongest – between 8am and 5pm on most days. To yield the highest results the roof will need to be north facing, however east and west facing orientations still generate excellent results.
The pitch of the roof should be anywhere between 10 and 45 degrees with 30 degrees being optimum. If you want to install on a flat roof then we can accommodate this by use of A Frames, which are used to mount the panels at a better angle.
Shading can be detrimental on the performance of the system, so it is important to check with us about our solutions to your shading problem.
To fit a solar PV system we’ll need a minimum area of 10m2 of clear roof space to get the most from your investment.
There are a number of variables that influence the amount of money you’ll save on electricity consumption. Some of these relate to the size and features of the solar system and some relate to energy use in the home or business, especially during daylight hours when the system is most effective. The very smallest system, a 1.5kw five panel set-up will save you around $700 per annum based on 2014 electricity costs – the larger the system, the bigger the savings. Larger systems can even generate small amounts of income if excess energy is moved back onto the grid.
